THE RAINBOW BRIDGE Author Unknown
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and timesgone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your companion, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together...

Merimba, a flea bitten grey 19 year old
Arabian mare, came into the CERA
program in July 2008. She was a
surrender through Animal Control. The
owners named her Merimba, Spanish for
Xylophone, her ribs showing reminded
them of a Xylophone. Her story can be
read on the "Pelear" tab. Merimba is
missed very much-her son, Pelear is a
wonderful addition and reminder of his
mother.
Willie was somewhere in his mid to late 20's. He was truly
a great little POA Pony. He loved to be brushed and let
loose in the yard to graze on his own. He was great with
the children loved the attention and had not a mean bone in
his body. We will miss him terribly
Gracie was approximately 21 years old.
She was severely foundered on her front
foot and had not seen a farrier in about 7
years. . No matter how much pain she
was in she was always happy and gave
me a great big whinny. She too loved to
be groomed and would get angry at me
when I quit. She would lay her head on
my shoulder as if to tell me thank you for
caring. My farrier and vet tried every thing
they possibly could to help Gracie. She
even had a special shoe made just for
her. My farrier just could not do a balance
trim on her without the chance of her
coffin bone coming through the sole.
She will be missed very very much.
Bonnie was approximately 20 years
old. We had here nearly 5 years. She
was totally blind in both eyes and
severely arthritic in her front legs due
to an accident when she was two.
The previous owners kept her
because of her blood line, quarter
horse which could be tracked back to
1928. Bonnie had foaled
around 13 babies. When she could
not be bred any longer they put her in
a pen with other horses and let her
fend for herself. She will also be
missed very much.

Sam was a 9 year old Tennessee Walker. He came into the
CERA in October 2009 with an old deep puncture wound of his
eye. Five months later we found out that Sam had cancer in the
same eye. Sam had surgery in August 2010 to remove the eye
and any surrounding cancer. During surgery they found that the
cancer had traveled to his brain. Sam's condition would only
worsen over time and his quality of life was not promising. We
choose to peacefully have Sam put to sleep. So young to loose
such a magnificent, loving creature from God. We will miss you
"Sam I Am"

Ginger was in her late 20's. She was an
ex-barrel racer and her stifles were shot.
She no longer had any muscles in her hind.
The arthritis in her front legs was also very
painful for her. She was my boss mare.
She taught Pelear & Farrah herd manners
which that is something us humans could
never do. The babies would respect Ginger
and move out of her way. All she had to do
was pull her ears back. She would always
make sure everyone was where they
needed to be and safe. Ginger also wore a
bell so her buddy Sassy knew where she
was. Near the end Sassy pulled away from
Ginger, like to tell her I will not be here
much longer. Ginger will be missed by all
the horses and John & I.

Abidan Elben, better known as Danny was a 24 year old
registered flea bitten grey Arabian. Danny had a body score
of 1, full of intestinal parasites, no teeth and unfortunately not
responding to diarrhea treatment. He was a very sweet boy,
loved to be bathed, groomed and given attention. As far as
we know he has not seen a vet since 1994. This should not
have happened to such a beautiful boy. He was bright eyed,
very sweet and loved to munch on grass which he balled up
in his mouth and spits out. He is a victim of neglect and the
economy, and another unwanted horse.

Farrah was brought to CERA 5 mos
old which was her 4th home. She
immediately bonded with Pelear and
they became extremely close as two
horses could. Being a nurse mare
foal, she was not able to overcome a
genetic defect in her legs which
caused her feet to roll, almost walking
on her fetlock. Surgery was
performed but after a few months, it
was not successful. During a second
surgery, it was best to let her go in her
sleep as there was nothing more the
surgeons could do. We are
heartbroken but know if our hearts
Farrah is running in green fields. She
turned 2 yrs old in March.

Star sadly passed over the Rainbow
Bridge, just four weeks after giving
birth to a beautiful filly, named Jules.
Star will be greatly missed by all who
knew and cared for her. She was a very
special girl and a wonderful mother.
Horses enrich our lives in ways that we
don't even realize until they are gone.
When Star passed away so suddenly
and unexpectedly, she took a part of us
with her... but she left a bigger part of
herself behind.
